Abstract:
Following the idea of Strutinsky et al. [1] we have evaluated shapes of
fissioning nuclei along the fission valley in the liquid drop (LD) potential energy [2] landscape which are parametrization independent [3]. These optimal shapes, i.e. corresponding to the minimum of the LD energy for a given elongation, will be compared with the shapes obtained with the Funny-Hills parametrization [4] and its improved version of Ref. [5]. The effect of rotation on the optimal shapes of nuclei will be also discussed. In addition, are going to present a generalization of the original Strutinsky method [1] to the left-right asymmetric forms of nuclei and show the influence of this degree of freedom on the barrier heights [6].
